AKUAPEM N: School for the Blind organises inter-houses games
Akropong School for the Blind organized a two day inter-houses games at KHADRASH SPORTS COMPLEX.

The games stared on Thursday 18th and ended on Friday 19th May 2023. Disciplines contested for, included Athletics, Goal-ball, Spoon and Lime, High jump, Javelin, Shot-put and Sack race.


Present to grace the occasion included the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive of Akuapem North Municipality Barima Awuah Sarpong Asiedu Larbi, the GES Director Mr. Laurence Dzah, some NGO groups noted among them were vision Ghana and Khadrash foundations.


In a short goodwill message, the MCE of Akuapem North said he was elated to be present at the event because that was the very first time he was witnessing a sporting event of people living with disabilities.


He encouraged the students not to be despair in life but they should keep working hard and have hope in God.


He charged them to believe in themselves and that disability is indeed inability. He urged them to take their education serious since it is the bed rock and a tool by which success is achieved in life.


He said what he has witnessed during the games was unparalleled and that if blind students could exhibit such a high level of talents in sporting discipline like this, shows that there is indeed future for the country.


He advised the youth to eschew laziness and devote their time to studies or whatever venture they find themselves in. He said government is doing all that it could in order to empower the youth.


He charged them to change their attitude and mindset and keep working hard to meet government’s efforts towards economic recovery.


He also applauded the school management and teachers for their devotion in the upkeep and training of the children for the future. He urged them to do more and that God will replenish and reward them at the opportune time.


The MCE also stated that he will apportion and commit some of his Sundays so that he could worship with the school from time to time.


Earlier on Friday morning, House 2 engaged House 4 in a fierce battle in the Boys’ Ball-game. This game was so thrilling and keenly contested that the entire spectators were on their toes. At the end of the contest, House 4 out muzzled their House 2 counterpart to a (7:6) scores line.


Other thrilling events were in athletics especially The Three Legged races as well as the sack races.


At the end of the games, House One boys amassed 102 points whiles the girls poll 98 points to emerge as overall winners of the 2023 inter-houses games. Meanwhile, House Four, Three and Two came 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively
