He polled 95 votes out of the 132 valid votes cast to beat his opponents, Mr Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang, District Chief Executive of Dormaa East District Assembly who polled 34.

Mr. Kumi in his speech after emerging the winner, commended the delegates for reposing their confidence in him and pledged to work to improve the working and living conditions of members at both the regional and district levels.

He however appealed to members to support him in his administration so as to help accelerate development. He also vowed to work with all in humility and also make sure a regional secretariat is established.

On his part, Mr Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang who had earlier conceded defeat pledged his outmost support to back the winner to deliver his best for the region.

Meanwhile, the President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Mr Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, in a speech read on his behalf, admonished members not to immune themselves to the global agenda for sustainable developments such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Local Economic Development and Climate Change.

According to him, it is imperative to indicate that local governance and decentralization has taken global dimensions and members have to appreciate the implication it has on their operation at the local level.

He disclosed that, the government as part of efforts to strengthen governance at grassroot level is poised to resume the distribution of free motorbikes to Assembly Members across the country in order to facilitate their work.
