Work on Asutifi North District Hospital progressing

The construction of an ultra-modern hospital for the Asutifi North District at Kenyasi in the Brong-Ahafo Region is progressing steadily, a visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) has revealed.

Works on a 68-bed capacity ward for in-patient department cases costing GH¢943,000.00 and a GH¢699,441.99 theatre, labour and maternity ward are about 95 per cent complete, whilst the out-patient department (OPD) and other auxiliary offices have already been completed.

Mr Anthony Mensah, the Asutifi North District Chief Executive, said the project being funded through the Assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF), started in 2017 and is expected to be completed and inaugurated by 2022.

A solar-powered borehole would also be constructed for the Hospital’s water system to ensure constant flow of water.

In an interview with the GNA during a visit on the sidelines of a STAR Ghana funded monitoring project being implemented by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and Sustainable Mission Aid (SMAid) in the region, Mr Mensah said works on a children's ward and mortuary would start very soon.

Under the project titled “Enhanced Media-CSO Partnerships for Inclusive Local Governance”, the GJA in partnership with civil society actors would carry out integrated set of media interventions in order to foster and strengthen the seemingly weak collaboration between the two entities.

The 18-month project aimed at strengthening media and CSO collaboration for inclusive and accountable local governance in the country.

Strategically, such interventions would drive the vehicle of demanding effective social accountability from duty-bearers at the local and national levels.

Mr Mensah said the Assembly approached Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (NGGL), Ahafo Mine for support and the multi-national mining company has promised to furnish the hospital with all the required medical devices and equipment.

The mine has also agreed to fund the construction of the children’s ward and other facilities, he said, and expressed appreciation to the Management of the mining company for its continuous support towards the development of the District.

Mr Mensah appealed to NGOs, and civil society organisations as well as wealthy natives of Kenyasi, both home and abroad to come and support the socio-economic development of the District.
