KRACHI W: PWDs receive items, startup capital

The Krachi West District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr. Douglas Osei Nti through the Disability fund from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) has distributed items and startup capital to Persons with Disability (PWD) in the district.

This follows a need assessment of Persons with Disability by the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development.

The various items were procured according to the needs of about 50 beneficiaries who fall within the categories of visually impaired, physically challenged, hearing impaired, mentally unstable and multiple disability persons.

The support items ranges from deep freezers with ice chess, industrial sowing machines, glass cutting machines, water pumping machines, design machines, knitting machines, bails of second hand clothes, iron sheets, goats and cow for rearing among others. Others also receive tricycles to aid their movement.

The items are meant to economically empower beneficiaries to generate income for themselves towards poverty alleviation.

Mr. Osei Nti, in his address said, the government is committed to supporting PWDs, through education, health, economic ventures and poised to improve the living conditions of disabled persons in the country.

He reminded them that the monies given were to help them start the business for which they applied for the support and advised them to take proper care of the items to enhance their businesses and there will be periodic monitoring to ascertain their progress.

He promised the rest of the PWDs will receive their support at the appropriate time, adding the gesture is not a nine day wonder.
