‘Year of roads is real’ - GA EAST MCE
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA), Abokobi, Hon. Janet Tulasi Mensah, says the "Year of Roads" promise given by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is not mere rhetoric but real and residents of the Ga East Municipality are benefiting from it. She said this on day one of a special tour of the municipality with Assembly Members.

The President in a media encounter in December last year tagged 2020 as the "Year of Roads", with the expectation by the citizenry that indeed, there was going to be massive transformation in the Roads Sector of the economy.

This, according to the MCE for Ga East, Hon. Janet Tulasi Mensah, is being fulfilled as new roads are being constructed while existing ones are seeing maintenance after years of abandonment. One area, among the lot, in the Ga East Municipality which is gradually becoming a living testimony of the Year of Roads mantra is Dome and Dome Pillar 2.

For years, residents have grappled with poor nature of the roads in the area and attendant challenges to their daily lives. Through the efforts of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency (DKC), Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, roads, as well as drains and culverts and footbridge are being constructed or maintained to bring relief, not only to residents but the entire citizenry of the municipality.

Hon. Janet Tulasi Mensah reckons that the government under President Akufo-Addo is very committed in delivery on its promises and appealed to the people of the municipality to exercise patience and wait for their share of the "Year of Roads" cake.

"I'm proud to say that the whole of the country, Ga East is enjoying the most of roads construction and we've spoken to a lot of the contractors and most of them are dedicated to the work. We also go round to make sure that they're doing the right thing and we're assuring the citizenry that the President is committed to helping all the municipalities to make sure that our roads are well constructed and easing the movement of people", she noted.

She praised the MP for the area for her the immense support she has lend to the Assembly to advance the development agenda of the municipality under the vision of becoming the "Enviable Municipality" in Ghana and beyond.

"The Ga East Municipality has a challenge with drains, culverts, footbridges and all that and so myself and the Hon. MP took it upon ourselves that these are the target areas we were going to concentrate on them. What we're seeing here (Dome Hamburg School area) is one of such. When it rains, people are unable to cross to the other side, especially school children. Our mother, Hon. Adwoa Safo, is behind all these projects you're seeing. Me and my Engineer go round and identify them and send to her to lobby for us to get the projects. We are so grateful to her", Hon. Janet Tulasi Mensah remarked.

On Tuesday, 2nd June, 2020, the MCE embarked on a Five (5)-Day tour of the municipality, dubbed, " MCE's Electoral Area Field Inspections With Assembly Members".

Under this special inspection programme, the Hon. MCE, with her Management Staff, is expected to tour each ELECTORAL AREA of the municipality with the Assembly and Unit Committee Members of the respective jurisdictions the key focus.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Janet Tulasi Mensah gave the rational for the programme, stating that it was to let the Honourable Members, both old and new, appreciate the numerous projects being undertaken by the Assembly and through the Member of Parliament on behalf of the Government of Ghana.

"We have newly elected Assembly Members plus the old ones and most of them do not know their boundaries and they do not know the activities going on in their areas and so I thought it wise that, with my Management and Assembly Members, we will go round the municipality to inspect projects so that they'll not say that it's in a green book or a blue book. This is reality that they're seeing", the Hon. MCE concluded.

The tour took the Hon. MCE and her entourage, which included the Presiding Member (PM), Hon. Jesse Nii Noi Anum, to Dome East Electoral Area, the first on the schedule, where she was met by the Assembly Member, Hon. Joseph Iddrisu Boakye and his Unit Committee Members.
