More companies donate to Fisheries Ministry towards Farmers’ Day
The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Elizabeth Afoley Quaye is confident the response from corporate institutions towards this year’s Farmers’ Day celebration will ensure significant improvement in the kinds of awards fishermen receive.

The Minster who was speaking at the second session of donations from corporate institutions to the Fisheries Ministry in support of the 33rd National Farmers’ Day celebration indicated that her Ministry is collaborating well with the business community to ensure the fisher folks receive befitting awards to boost their confidence in the risk they take in ensuring they supply the country with the needed fish to supply the protein requirements for the people.



Madam Elizabeth Quaye however admonished the fishermen to put what they will receive as awards to good use to improve their work, adding, their activities should benefit the entire nation.

She encouraged them to practice sustainable fishing and desist from illegal practices that pose a threat to the safety of the people as well as their own business considering the rate of decline in the fish stock in the Ghanaian waters.



She expressed her profound gratitude to the sponsors, stating “Your support and partnership have proved to be very monumental in our quest to improve the awards given to our fishers over the years. We are glad to inform you that, as a result of your support, we have been able to improve significantly the awards given to the fishermen”.

She also extended her appeal to other corporate bodies to come on board and support the Ministry to offer appropriate prizes to the fishers.
