NADOWLI: Farmers' day mark in Kpazie
Apart from producing food to feed the nation, it is a known fact that the Agriculture sector also employs over 60 percent of the total workforce of the nation hence the importance of Agriculture to the economic growth of the nation cannot be overemphasized.

This was made today by the District Chief Executive for the Nadowli-Kaleo Hon.Katherine Lankono at Kpazie a farming community in the Nadowli-Kaleo District on the occasion of the 33rd Edition of the 2017 National Farmers’ and Fishers’Day celebration on the theme: “Planting for Food and Jobs”.

Speaking on the theme, Madam Katherine said this will increase food security and the disposable income as well as the stabilization of the national currency for the Ghanaian people. She said the NPP Administration, through prudent policies and programmes putting in place will help remove constraints in the Agriculture sector to make investment less risky, rewarding and make it a business friendly for people.



According to Madam Katherine, the district for many years has recognized the great contributions by farmers toward both local and the national economy. She said government has put in place various support schemes to improve the conditions under which farmers opearate.Notably among them is the government campaign promise of implementing “one district,one factory”.




The programme has an ultimate objective of creating an environment conducive for each local government area to own factories relative to their well-endowed resources and capacity to provide jobs and wealth for the country. This will see to the industrialization of the country’s economy as part of the transformation process envisaged by the president of Ghana, she said.

Madam Katherine added that, the district cultivate and consume traditional staple crops, livestock and fish products which are eaten locally and also exported to neighboring regions in Ghana.




A 42 year old Madam Rebecca Kandee was adjudged the 2nd runner-up, district best farmer for the district, she is married with 6 children.Mr. Stephen Sungpuo 40 years was also adjudged the 1st runner-up and Mr. Felix Bazin was adjudged the overall district farmer of the year, he is 65 years married with 5 children.

Mr. Felix admonished the youth to go into farming because it is only that sector that does not discriminate.




In her last words, the DCE appeal to Chiefs, Elders and Clan heads to release lands under very reasonable terms to individuals or groups who will be willing to invest in Agriculture, she also encouraged all to educate and sensitize community members on the need not to burn bushed as many people have not yet harvested their crops
