NADOWLI K: I will work closely with my heads of departments and units - DCE

Madam Katherine T. Lankono, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nadowli-Kaleo has expressed her commitment to working closely with heads of departments and units in the district.

Hon Catherine said the move is to enable her get technical advice from the technocrats to enable her run the district administration as expected.

“I am committed to working closely with my heads of departments and units of the Assembly.

This is to enable me get technical advice from these technocrats so as to enable me run the district Administration as expected. I have decided to institute quarterly meetings with an expanded management meeting which will include the Directors of Health, Education and the Department of Agriculture among others to enable me have periodic briefings on the state of affairs in the district.’’

She was addressing the second ordinary general assembly meeting of the Nadowli-Kaleo district assembly on Thursday (16th November, 2017).

Hon Catherine T Lankono in her address also briefed the house on the state of the Assembly. She touched on peace and security, finances of the Assembly, education and health. She also briefed the house on the state of agriculture, the Ghana school feeding programme, water and sanitation and environment.

On security the Hon DCE credited the Police for their hard work and commitment towards fighting crime in the District.

“The district is relatively peaceful and everybody is going about his or her daily activities normally except for few cases of robbery recorded in recent times which have since been under control. This credit goes to our security forces for their hard work and commitment towards fighting crime in the District.’’

She lamented the poor financial strength of the Assembly and said it is nothing to write home about.

She added ‘’ For the year 2017, we have received the first and second quarter of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF) release. This situation, coupled with insufficient Internally Generated Fund (IGF) has negatively affected the implementation of the approved projects and activities in the 2017 Annual Action Plan and the related Composite Budget of the Assembly.’’

Following the release of funds from the DACF, the Assembly has made payments to some contractors who have completed their works and those at appreciable levels of completion.

On education, Hon. Catherine said the District Assembly is actively collaborating with the District Education Directorate to revitalize and make functional the District Education Oversight Committee (DEOC) for effective monitoring and supervision of teaching and learning in the District.

She also revealed the quest to construct an ultra-modern laundry and a District morgue to promote hygiene and the preservation of dead bodies are on course in the district hospital. She commended the Medical Director of the District Hospital for his dedication and selfless services rendered to the district and beyond.

Hon Catherine disclosed that a total of 139 caterers were recruited for the year 2017 to cook for school pupils in 82 basic schools in the district. “For the year 2017 a total of 139 caterers were recruited to cook for school pupils in 82 basic schools in the district. These caterers were taken through an orientation process to brief them on the guidelines, rules and regulations governing the programme for improved service delivery’’.

She added that plans are underway to facilitate early processing of payments to caterers in order to avoid the previous undue delays by the Programme.

On the financial position of the Assembly, She said the poor financial position of the Assembly has negatively affected the implementation of approved projects and activities in the 2017 Annual Action Plan and the related Composite Budget of the Assembly.
