Torgbui Adzagba the first, the newly-installed Development Chief of Aflao has affirmed his commitment and readiness to develop and transform Aflao to enable the area unearth its economic potential.

He declared his intention to collaborate with the chiefs and people of the Aflao Traditional Area to create economic and social opportunities that would bring prosperity to the people of the area.

Torgbui Adzagba, known in real life as Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, the Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman in the Eastern Region, gave that assurance when he was officially out-doored and conferred with the traditional title at a colourful ceremony at Aflao over the weekend.

Mr Osei-Ameyaw was a fortnight ago named the new Development Chief of Aflao Traditional Area by the Aflao Traditional Council. The time-honoured position was previously held by the late Komla Dumor, an accomplished international journalist.

The legislator, who is also a successful business mogul, is expected to spearhead the development of the Aflao Traditional Area and assist the traditional authorities to woo investors to the area.

He was born to Kwaku Osei, who traced his lineage to Gyakiti, Akwamu in the Eastern Region and Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region; and Madam Florence Abutu Tettevie, who hailed from Aflao and Ada.

Torgbui Adzagba, referred to as the Son of the Soil by the indigenes of Aflao, said he was humbled by the honour done him and vowed to bring his knowledge and experience to bear on development and prosperity of the Aflao traditional area.

He said he would spare no efforts at ensuring that there was a change in the negative perceptions people held about Aflao and its indigenes, urging the people to also work to shed those unhelpful opinions people had about them.

Torgbui Adzagba told the people to be proud of their heritage as Ewes, imploring them to avoid activities that gave them a bad image and to put their children on to the right path and give them quality education and the right training to brighten their prospects.

Torgbui Adzagba promised to clamp down on crime and criminal elements in the area, and expressed the hope that the traditional elders would give him the necessary support to discharge his duties effectively.

As a goodwill gesture for the honour done him, Torgbui Adzagba, the first, pledged a seed fund of GH20, 000 and 1,000 bags of cement towards the construction of a multi-purpose resource centre for the traditional area.

The Resource Centre is to be built on a piece of land made available by the Paramount Chief of Aflao Traditional Area, Torgbui Amenya Fiti the fifth.

The gesture set the durbar grounds agog, with spontaneous drumming and dancing, with the people expressing contentment with the lawmakers endowment.

The Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, Togbui Amenya Fiti V, who outdoored Togbui Adzagba, described him as a man of substance, who was chosen because of his international business and political connections as well as his demonstration of love for the people in the area.

He was confident that Torgbui Adzagba, who has affiliations with different ethnic groupings in the country, would use his position to bridge the differences between Akans and Ewes.

He also asked other citizens of the area to assist in efforts to develop the Aflao area.

Both chiefs later broke the ground for the commencement of work on the resource centre that would have facilities for recreation and social gatherings, as well as a bank, internet cafe and a hospital.
