Asante-Akim North District Assembly, has promised a cash reward of GH10,000.00 to each of the 35 junior high schools in the area, who achieve 90 per cent score pass in the Basic Education Certificate Examination.

Mr Daniel Osei, District Chief Executive (DCE), said the area wants to see a significant improvement in the performance of candidates presented for the examination.

He said the schools must work hard and go the extra mile to better the present 57 per cent pass record.

The DCE was speaking at a forum held for more than 400 teachers at Agogo, the district capital, to discuss ways of enhancing teaching and learning.

He said the expectation is that stakeholders would take up the responsibility to bring about the desired results.

Mr Osei said absenteeism, truancy and misuse of the contact hours, must be avoided for quality academic work.

He gave the assurance that old and weak classroom structures would be rehabilitated.

Mr Edward Adam, District Education Director, complained that some parents refuse to educate their children and said this attitude must change.

He suggested the need for the assembly to enact a bye-law to stop school children from going out at night.
