The Great Amphibians Football Club of Yendi, has unveiled its squad for the 2014/2015 league season with the aim of using sports as a tool to unite the youth of the area and bring an end to conflicts in the region.

The Great Amphibians Football Club of Yendi, has unveiled its squad for the 2014/2015 league season with the aim of using sports as a tool to unite the youth of the area and bring an end to conflicts in the region.

The Great Amphibians was founded in September 2011 and participated in the 2012/2013, 2013/2014 and was currently preparing to participate in the 2014/2015 Northern Regional Division II League.

Mr Yakubu Mohammed Whyte, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the club announced this during the unveiling of the club and launching of the clubs Twitter and Facebook pages at Yendi on Sunday.

Mr Yakubu Whyte said the unveiling and launch of the clubs Twitter and Facebook pages was to enable supporters and lovers of the club to visit the sites and make useful contributions as well as get updates.

He said the aim of forming the club was also to foster peace and co-existence among the youth who would come together in playing football in the area.

Touching on the performance of the club, the Chief Executive Officer indicated that in 2012/2013 league season, the club played a total of 12 matches in their maiden appearance and managed to win four, lost four and drew four.

Mr Whyte therefore called on the youth to give it the necessary support and that it was important for the youth to join the club and support them at all their matches saying, The devil always finds work for the idle hands.

Mr Issah Zakaria, Yendi Municipal Chief Executive who launched the two social media pages said Yendi was always seen as trouble spot, but was now enjoying peace through a number of activities and stated that it was through the efforts of the Government, other organizations, chiefs, opinion leaders and the Municipal Security Committee that brought about the prevailing peace to the area.

He stated that he was happy that the club was involving the youth in the Municipality in its competitions with the motto: Real Winners and described it as very appropriate adding that it would help sustain the current peaces saying, sports is not for only participation and winning but also help in self discipline, sincerity and love for each other.

Mr Edward Bismarck Akapo who chaired the function expressed the hope that the initiative of the club would bring sustained unity especially among the youth and asked all to continue to support the club to qualify for the premiership in future.

Mr Akapo who is also the Assistant Headmaster Domestic of Yendi Senior High School announced that Great Amphibians Football club has links with the Accra Hearts of Oak football club, which was established in September 1911, and has similarly unveiled and launched its Twitter and Facebook pages in Accra
