The Anyinam Kotoku Local Authority Junior High School, which recorded zero per cent in the Basic Education certificate examination  for eight consecutive years, has improved its academic performance this year.

The school moved from the last spot of the BECE league table  where it had occupied for the past eight years to the 90th position of the 121 JHSs in the Birim Central municipality and Birim South distict.

Teachers , pupils and parents attributed the poor performance of the candidates in the BECE over the years to the notion that  a spiritualist had revealed  to them that someone had cast a spell on the school by spiritually planting an amulet on the school compound.

The District Chief Executive for Birim South, Baffour Mensah Takyi at a stakeholders meeting with parents , teachers, school prefects, traditional rulers , assembly members and officials of the Ghana Education Service last August, dismissed the school’s dismal performance to the alleged spell cast on the school.

He advised the teachers and pupils of the school to maximize their output, warning that the government could not continue to invest huge sums of money in education without getting fruitful results.
