Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister, has advised Municipal and District Assemblies in the region to ensure that all financial resources channeled into their coffers were used to enhance development.

He therefore urged managements of the assemblies to avoid using their share of the common fund on recurrent expenditure as that practice violated the guidelines on the utilization of the common fund.

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo was addressing the second ordinary meeting of the second session of the Kwahu South District Assembly at Mpraeso.

He said the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) was intended primarily and specifically for development and its judicious utilization was crucial to rural development and urged the assemblies to step up their internally revenue mobilization effort for recurrent expenditure.

The Regional Minister lauded the assembly’s performance in the Functional Organizational Assessment Tool (FOAT) which enabled it to access over GHC 200,000 of the District Development Fund (DDF).

He said the district had access to a number of development funds and interventions such as Community Based Rural Development Project (CBRDP), the European Union/Government of Ghana projects (EU/GOG) and the local service delivery and governance programme which they have to utilize for accelerated development.

Mr. Joseph Omari, District Chief Executive, said the assembly realize GHC 260,985.42 at the end of October this year as its internally generated fund as against estimated a -nnual revenue of GHC 192,164.48.

He said 642 children out of 1,273 presented at this year’s Basic School Certificate Examination (BECE), passed representing 50.4 percent while five schools in the district recorded zero percent.

Mr. Omari therefore called for the establishment of a district resource centre at Mpraeso for teachers to upgrade their knowledge to enhance their performances.

He said the assembly supported 22 persons at the various levels of education with an amount of GHC 9,219.40 out of which 17 of them were now pursuing various courses at the Polytechnics and Universities.
