The District Chief Executive of Tano North, Hon. Dominic Owusu-Amoako has called on assembly members to take measures to step up revenue mobilization in the district.
He indicated that the Assembly has been allocated with GHC 1,584,683.99 for its development projects for 2009 and urged residents in the area to rekindle the communal spirit.
Speaking to assembly members, he said "I employ you to commit our people in development projects, it is only when we do this that they will own these projects and by so doing we shall be sowing the seed of maintenance in them".
Hon. Owusu-Amoako said in order to ensure that the Assembly’s constructed residences were utilised to save the Assembly from paying rents or rehabilitating people’s houses for use, the assembly has decided to contract people to work on the furnishing of staff bungalows among other projects.
He expressed gratitude to Newmont Ghana Limited for contributing to the development of the district.
According to him, the district is gradually receiving some benefits from the operations of Newmont under the Sustainable Development Fund.
Additionally, the assembly, the police, health service also get cash donations and material support from the company.
Hon. Owusu-Amoako expressed concern about the improper allocation of plots in the district which has resulted in the haphazard building and erection of unauthorized structures.
He therefore called on the chiefs and technical men at the district and regional level and the entire assembly to take a major decision on the issue of plot acquisition, allocation and proper land use in the district to forestall any unfortunate situation.
