JAMAN N: Obour Steven, 54, is district best farmer
Mr. Obour Steven, 54 years of age who hails from Suma Ahenkro near Sampa the district capital was on Friday 1st December, 2017 crowned as the Jaman North district best farmer.

The ceremony which took place at Asuokor, a farming community in the district also saw Mr. Mensah Joseph of Adadiem and Mr Twene James of Seketia emerging as the 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.

He took home a tricycle, a Knapsack spraying machine, 4 pairs of Wellington boots and 5 sets of cutlasses.




The DCE, Hon Adane Ankomah who used the opportunity to explain to the gathering the major government initiatives such as the planting for food and jobs, fertilizer subsidy, among others also commended the gallant farmers in the district for contributing to food security in the country.

He said government is determined to transform the economy of the country through effective, and efficient agriculture, thus the government will continue to support farmers not only to make farming attractive but also as a business.




Speaking on the theme: “Farming for Food and Jobs”, to mark the 33rd Farmers' Day celebration, he noted that the launch of the “Planting for Food and Job”, one of government's flagship programmes for the agriculture sector, is to ensure that food is readily available at low prices to all.

He therefore called on farmers as well as the youth to avail themselves for the programme to help government achieve its quest for increased food availability, and to improve the economy of the beneficiaries.




The Member of Parliament for the area, Siaka Stevens who cheered the occasion also highlighted the various programs of government. He laid emphasis on agriculture, health and education.
