The President, Nana Akufo Addo at the presentation of the Constitutional Instrument (C.I 116) for the creation of the North East region on Tuesday at the Jubilee House, also announced Nalerigu as the regional capital for the new region.

Walewale and Nalerigu were in the news for eyeing the regional capital slot which is believed to bring rapid development, a situation that led to a lot of lobbying. However, with this new development from the president, both would have to work together for the growth of the new region as anticipated.

Without a substantive regional minister appointed, the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed would have oversight responsibility over the new region until someone is appointed by the president.

The North East region was created out of the Northern Region after the referendum on December, 27 2018 which saw massive endorsement of its creation from the people.

The other five regions created alongside include Oti, Ahafo, Savannah, Bono East, and Western North.

The president is yet to announce the capitals for the remaining five regions created.

Government in the 2019 budget has allocated 20 million cedis for each of the new regions to help in their smooth take off.

In line with this, the president in presenting the Constitutional Instrument (C.I 116) at the Jubilee House reiterated his government’s resolve to the chiefs and people of the North East Region of doing everything possible to ensure rapid development of the new region.
