Sekyere Kumawu attracts investors
The District Chief Executive for Sekyere Kumawu, Samuel Addae Agyekum, has on behalf of the Assembly signed a preliminary agreement with China Urban And Rural Domestic Solid Waste Management Experts-Sanli Group, a Chinese company, to recycle waste into fertilizer in the district and beyond.

This came to light when the Assembly in collaboration with Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua – Chief and President of the Kumawu Traditional area, organized a public forum at the royal palace – Kumawu, on the theme: ‘Bringing Development to the Door Steps of the People through Public Participation in Decision Making’.

Barima Sarfo Tweneboah Koduah, who chaired the programme, hinted that he has offered a 1000 acre land to the investors for free to kick start the programme.

Hon. Agyekum noted that the programme which would commense hopefully by the end of the year when completed would collect about 20,000 metric tons of waste daily for recycling.


 

This, he believed would not only clear the district of filth but create employment for citizens.

He added that plans are far advanced for Mercies Consult and Investment Ltd- a Ghanaian investor to construct a factory in Kumawu that will process cassava and peanut into flour, ethanol and starch, for onward exportation and marketing.

The District Director of Agric for Sekyere Kumawu District, Mr. Acheampong commended the Chief Executive, Barima Sarfo Tweneboa and their team for coming out with such great opportunity. He said the establishment of a waste management and a processing factory in the District will help promote the development of Agriculture in the district since farmers will get ready market to feed the processing factory.

Presentations on waste management and plant treatment were made by Mr. Chen Rong Sheng and Tang Jian Wei, representatives of Chinese company and Mercies Consult And Investment Ltd respectively on Peanut cultivation/processing and Cassava cultivation/ processing.

 In an open forum, representatives of the two companies were engaged by the general public in questions and answers.
