Introduction

The Suhum Municipality is one of the 26 administrative districts in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It was established in July 2012 by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 20481 and Suhum is the municipal capital. It used to be part of the defunct Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District until the Ayensuano District was carved out of it in July 2012 and Suhum elevated to a municipality status. The municipality has a population of 90,358 made up of 43,962 males (48.7%) and 46,396 females (51.3%). This represents 3.4 percent of the total population of the Eastern Region.
