DONOR PROGRAMMES AND NGO ACTIVITIES

A few donor programmes have been on going in the Hohoe District some of these are:

DANISH SUPPORT TO DISTRICT ASSEMBLIES (DSDA II)

This is a capacity building programme aimed at strengthening human and institutional capacity for decentralized development planning and good governance in the district. Since 1996 this programme has assisted the District Assembly in the areas of financial management, economic development and human development. A comprehensive population and economic data base has been developed which has greatly enhanced the planning budgeting and financial management function of the District Assembly.

Under this programme also the Sub District structure (Area and Urban Councils) have been made operational through the provision of basic office furniture and equipment and remuneration for staff. The programme has also helped greatly to promote and market the tourism potentials of the district, which holds the key to its economic development.

GTZ/PROGRAMME FOR RURAL ACTION (PRA)

This is also a capacity building programme aimed at promoting decentralization. Various stakeholders have received training from the programme. These include Assembly members, staff of the District administration and decentralized departments.

EU MICRO PROJECTS PROGRAMME

With assistance form the European Union, basic socio - economic infrastructure such as classroom blocks, water and sanitation facilities, health posts and market structures are being built all over the district. For the past 2 years about 2 billion cedis has already been spent on such facilities.

 URBAN V PROJECT

An eleven year urban development programme, which took off in the year 2000 is being implemented in the Hohoe township. It is expected that the basic urban infrastructure of the district capital, Hohoe. will be improved when all the components are implemented. The roads, lorry park and market, street lighting and sanitation facilities are the main targets of the programme.
