Vision, Mission and Functions

The Ga South Municipal Assembly performs deliberative, Legislative and executive functions.

It has its functions spread amongst the 13 Departments established under the L.I 1961 (attached in appendix I). However the broad functions, vision and mission of the Assembly is outlined below.

Subject to article 245 of the Constitution, the Local Government Act {(Act 462) Part Two}, the National Development Planning Systems Act (Act 480, Sections 2 and 7) and the Local Government Service Act (Act 656, section 21), the Mission, Vision and Functions of the Ga South Municipal Assembly are as follows:

Mission

The Ga South Municipal Assembly exists to ensure a balanced socio-economic and spatial development of the Municipality by formulating and executing development plans and mobilisation of the necessary financial and human resources needed for development and poverty reduction.

Vision

“A well-integrated Developed Municipality as a Model for Social Advancement, Local Economic Growth and Infrastructural Development in harmony with the Physical and Natural Environment”

Background

The Ga South Municipal Assembly has Weija as its capital and is one of the 16 District Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region.

It was carved from the then Ga West Municipal Assembly in November 2007. The Assembly was established by legislative Instrument L.I.1867 with the capital at Weija. The original L.I was repealed on 15th March, 2013 with a new L.I 2134 with its capital at Weija . The Municipal Assembly has 3 Zonal Councils which operate below the Assembly structure.
